One Simple Way to Build Confidence

As we step into fall and move toward the end of the year, it’s natural to start thinking about what’s next. Maybe you’re feeling a bit anxious about the goals you set at the start of the year. You might be wondering if you’ve done enough or why certain plans haven’t come together yet.

But here’s a gentle reminder: you’ve accomplished more than you give yourself credit for, and it may be simpler than you think to build confidence.

We tend to focus on what still needs to be done, but rarely do we pause to acknowledge how far we’ve come. It’s time to take a step back and recognize your successes, big or small, because confidence grows from celebrating those wins.

Just think for a moment: What have you achieved this year? What are you proud of? It doesn’t matter if they’re big life changes or simple day-to-day victories—each one is worth celebrating. Whether you’ve pushed through a challenge at work, taken up a new hobby, or simply managed to keep going when things were tough, those are all signs of your resilience and growth.

It’s easy to focus on what didn’t work out or the fears that keep us stuck, but when we pause to appreciate the progress we’ve made, something shifts. We realize that we’ve faced challenges before and come through stronger. This is what fuels our confidence.

So why is this so important as we close out the year?

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you build by committing to yourself and having the courage to step into the unknown. It’s about believing in your abilities and trusting that you can handle whatever comes next, even when fear shows up.

Here’s an exercise  to boost your confidence as we enter the final quarter of the year.

Write down three things you’ve accomplished in 2024 that you’re most proud of. Then, think about what qualities helped you succeed. Was it your determination? Your creativity? Your ability to adapt when things got tough? These qualities are part of who you are, and they’re what will carry you forward into the new year.

And let’s be real—sometimes fear is going to creep in. But confidence is about feeling the fear and moving forward anyway. It’s the small, courageous steps you take that build momentum and strengthen your belief in yourself.

Remember, as we wrap up this year, you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. Celebrate that. You’ve done hard things before, and you’ll do them again. Confidence is like a muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets.

So, as we step into this new season, I encourage you to take stock of all you’ve accomplished and recognize the strength and courage it took to get here. And as you move forward, know that you have everything you need within you to continue growing, achieving, and thriving.
